The Sound of Music is probably one of my favourite movies. My sisters and I first started watching the musical at a young age and, when we lived together, we watched its yearly broadcast on tv. We loved how the Von Trapp children traipse through Salzburg in drapes, how Liesl asks for her first taste of champagne at her father's soiree, and how Maria and the rest of the Von Trapp family hide in the abbey and finally escape to safety, over the mountains. At one time, we were able to recite the lyrics to all the songs and even repeat, verbatim, the dialogue to most of the scenes. (I hate to admit it but I sang Climb Every Mountain to its entirety walking up the hill to my office today.)
You may be wondering what's all this talk about The Sound of Music...
It's October first today, people. Is it just me or is 2007 going by insanely quick?
To remedy my autumnal angst, here is a list of a few of my favourite things. Without further adieu:
1) Lazy mornings and a cup of coffee
2) Eating sushi -- cheap and tasty by Vancouver's standards
3) Swedish crackers topped with peanut butter
4) Sitting down to a homemade dinner made by someone else
5) Cherry blossoms on a warm spring day
6) Walking on the seawall with clear views of mountains
7) Wearing new shoes that don't need to be broken in
8) Teddy bears
9) A good haircut
10) Receiving a handwritten letter in the mail*
11) An inbox full of emails not spam*
12) Receiving a just-because present*
*hint, hint
