After the storm we had on Thursday, the days have been sunshiny beautiful, although cold (which meant a run on Friday and will possibly mean a brisk morning run tomorrow). Our Saturday started off with homemade raisin scones (very tasty, which I'm positively sure due to the fact that I can't find baking margarine anywhere and have to use butter!). Our goal today was to head to the Boscobel House and the famous Royal Oak tree (not sure why it's famous but we were eager to find out!). Our journey this morning took us through the most convoluted, narrowest, and muddiest roads possible and when we finally got to Boscobel House, it was closed for the winter season (doh!). Mental note for next time, check the guide book for the heritage site's hours of operation.
We back tracked a bit to visit the market town of Lichfield (one of the highlights suggested in our Lonely Planet book). It's claim to fame is its Cathedral, which totally recognisable from a distance with its three spires. It was so cold today that we had to cut our visit short but not short enough for me to not to stop in a card-making shop I had found.
More pictures of the Cathedral are posted here.
