september first

The seasons must have some sort of internal clocking system. Because, today on the first of September, Mother Nature must have waved her little wand because autumn suddenly appeared out of no where.

Within 5 minutes of leaving the house this morning, I was taken a back by the crispness in the air and the number of yellow leaves scattered along the sidewalk. I only briefly contemplated to retrace my steps to retrieve a jacket but, instead, ended up walking home in the rain jacketless and thinking, why was so naive to think that summer in Britain is bound to eventually happen?
