Many things may come to your mind when you think of Austria; perhaps, Sigmund Freud, the Sound of Music, the Blue Danube, Viennese waltz, or the actor-turned-governor. For me personally, I think of all the great musical composers.
You'd have to be blind to not notice that Vienna is the birthplace of classical music: salesmen dressed in faux velvet cloaks selling concert tickets, restaurants and cafes named after Mozart, and, similar to the Hollywood walk-of-fame, stars on the pavement with the names of composers.
We walked through the former apartments of Strauss and Haydn. We strolled through many parks and saw sculptures commemorating the composers.
During our visit, we made a stop at the Central Cemetry, where I paid my respects to Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, and many others.
We even listened to a string quartet one evening in the very same concert hall that Mozart performed many, many years ago.
To be continued...
