An unfamiliar sight in the kitchen: papers stacked on the dining table and scattered on the floor.
I am learning about Rasch analysis, writing a grant application for much-needed research funds, and working on journal revisions from my Master's thesis results all at the same time. All that, and I am also researching a new cake recipe (you’re probably thinking she's baking again?).
It's multi-tasking at its finest, I tell you.
While I may not be 100% (thesis) productive at home, there’s something to be said about a work-from-home Friday. Especially when the sun is already playing peek-a-boo through the clouds and you’re on the computer with a big mug of coffee in your hand and munching on a nearly fresh-from-the-oven, a-meal-in-itself oatmeal and chocolate chip cookie. You hang your laundry out to dry in the fresh air; you go for a stay-dry run in the nearby park.
[Excuse the pesky horse tails in the photo. We've spent many weekends pulling their never-ending convoluted network of roots. And unsuccessfully, as this picture depicts.]
My feelings about living here haven’t been always like this, as I’m sure you know, my friends.
It’s been a trying few months of getting myself adjusted: like living with an expensive, bad haircut (involving permanent violet dye but that's another story to tell) - but only much worse.
And the never-ending rain in June didn't help.
Although, I have not 100% converted to my new surroundings, I’ve finally realized -- maybe because of my thesis topic centred on adaptation -- that I am here and I have to make the best of it.
Here's to you, friends. Have a nice weekend.
