first class

I had my first module as a PhD student at the Uni today. While a module may sound very labour intensive, it is equivalent to a 'course' in Canada). I was a bit nervous as I had been told repeatedly that they aren't as generous with their marking in the UK as in Canada (for example, take what you would get in Canada and, on average, subtract 15 percent from it to get your mark in the UK!) - an A starts at 70%. After my first class, I think I'll be okay, as today's lecture was on how to prepare a powerpoint presentation. I was thinking of pulling my hair out at one point when the instructor was describing the undo shortcut!

They are predicting snow tomorrow and the train companies have already started cancelling some of their runs. Considering the difficulties I had coming home the last time it snowed here, I'm working from home AGAIN tomorrow!
