Research update

Most of you have been asking how my new research project is going. Overall, it is going well. I have a lot of supervisory support with fortnightly meetings (although we’re meeting weekly to refine my research proposal). They seem very impressed with my drive but this really stems from the fact that I want to finish my degree in the suggested three years! However, I am absolutely amazed (or SHOCKED!) at the lack of research funds available here in the UK, especially in health services research. We are currently scraping up funds (e.g. applying for research grants) for miscellaneous items, such as stationary (envelopes and postage stamps) and printing costs (questionnaires). It’s SO frustrating when you come from a financially supportive research environment such as Canada, where I never had to worry about this.
