You all right?

That’s how the Brits say “How are you?”. When I was greeted with this saying the first time, I thought the person knew something I didn’t know about, but this expression has slowly sunken in.

We woke up early to talk to our good friend back home. We still find the 8-hour difference weird as we were getting up to start our day and Paul was getting ready for bed! We also find it extra weird to have to schedule our phone calls with our friends and family back home!

It’s Friday and a work-from-home day; however, there are two people in the house today. One person is playing on the internet and one person is doing serious work in the den ;) We are visiting the doctor this afternoon to get registered with a health number. This evening I am meeting this girl for a drink at one of the many local pubs here. We had to give our descriptions, like a blind date, so we identify each other. I probably should have said I am one of the 10 Asians you’ve seen in town... (This probably explains why I am having a difficult time finding economy-sized soya sauce and tofu in Derby).

"You alright" threw me for a loop for probably the first month I was in the UK. It's still less confusing than "alright" by itself, though. :)

Have you seen any of the "yield to old people" signs yet? I think I like those even more than the toads.

Hi James! Good to hear from you. Yes, I have seen many yield to the elderly signs, as well as yield to ducks signs! Hope you and Sarah have a good Xmas.
