Bolsover

We purchased an English Heritage membership last weekend when we visited Ashby-de-la-Zouch. This will enable us to visit 400 castles within England. So be forewarned - you’ll be bombarded with pictures of castles for the next 15 months! Also if you see photos of a particular castle you like, just let us know, and we’ll take you there when you come and visit!

Today we visited Bolsover Castle near Chesterfield (two down and 398 castles to go!). Apparently, Bolsover is pronounced with only 2 syllables (Bols-ver) rather 3 syllables (Bol-so-ver). This is the case for many of the places here. For example, Derbyshire is actually pronounced with 3 syllables (Dar-be-shure) rather how I say it with 4 (Dar-be-shi-re).

Bolsover is a large site and it is quite neat as it contained both ruins and fully intact castles. I’ve also posted more pictures on flickr.

Tomorrow we're invited to a lunch in Loughborough. Apparently, the Brits have a traditional lunches on Sunday - complete with a roast and all! I just hope it's not beef...
