Shocked and in disbelief at a high 20s predicted temperature, we headed for a walk in the Peak District bright and early this morning.

I sported my new hiking boots, which had my three favourite attributes: on for 60% off, coated with gore-tex, and kept my socks and feet mud free (unlike my previous pair with visible holes).

We walked along a nice path, conveniently dotted with neighbourhood pubs (which we didn't enter), and had views of distant patchwork farm fields and expansive purple hues of heather bushes. No rugged snow-capped mountains or glacier-fed lakes, but it'll have to do...
