the moldau/vltava

Some of you may know that I once aspired to be a concert pianist. I practised, did my theory, and I even successfully auditioned for a position to pursue my Bachelor of Performance. Although I declined the spot to focus on science instead, my love for classical music never ceased.

Smetana's The Moldau -- the German title -- was one of the composition I studied during my teenage years in-pursuit-of-a-musical-dream. This symphonic poem evokes the sounds of one of Bohemia's great rivers: from its origins as a spring, its travels through fields and meadows, past Prague, and finally joining up with its major tributary and floating away.

You can call it a belated birthday/end of academic year/gold medal/just because gift, but our visit to Prague this weekend, at least for me, was primarily to see the river.
