We had a great weekend touring the southwest of England. So great, that I'm working from home today ;)
Despite being stuck in congested traffic in Bath, our 3-hour trip to Southstoke was easy peasy. We were amazed at the beauty of the city of Bath - so amazed that I toyed with the moving there (won't our commutes to our respective schools be even more pleasant!).
We had a whirlwind tour of the city and the surrounding areas and learning to be as British as possible in the process with a ploughman's lunch one day and two jacket potatoes on another, scones with 'really thick double cream', and English curry.
On our first day, we visited the beautiful 18th century Victorian Prior Park with beautiful views of Bath itself. Then we walked around the city of Bath and totally loved the white stoned architecture (such a pretty contrast to the heavy red brick buildings we normally see in England). We did a tour of the Roman Baths! On our second day, we visited the Farleigh Hungerford Castle, the big White Horse (made out of chalk) on the hill, Stonehenge, and Avebury. Despite the negative comments we've previously heard about Stonehenge, we found the 'pile of rocks' (as someone described) very impressive! We equally enjoyed the stone circles at Avebury especially we were able to get up close to them! Click here for photos.
Thank you for your hospitality and the great weekend, Kathryn and Andy! Hope to see you in boring Derby soon!

I've exceeded my free flickr account and have posted some of our pictures from the weekend but earlier photos have been removed in the process until I upgrade to the next level of the account - what a scam!
