If you think you’ve nearly gotten used to looking which way to look when crossing the streets in the UK, don’t visit Europe! Their roads are the same as in North America. When we were in France, there was a sense of familiarity and comfort as we crossed the roads but at the same time, we felt unsure if a car was going to be zooming in front of us in the other direction.

On a side note, ever wonder why the cars in Europe are so small and compact? It’s to manoeuvre down their narrow streets. We were walking beside this one-way street in Nimes, a lady was ‘trying’ to parallel park and the street was becoming backed up. I felt particularly bad for her as I know how difficult it is to p-park and everyone was honking to get her to hurry. She gave up and drove away to the next available spot, about 10 car lengths ahead. She hollered to a man (a complete stranger, I must add) walking on the street, she got out of her car, and he parked the car for her!
Now try doing that on your driver’s test!
